Course Description


There are a lot of big feelings about this topic, and there's a lot of misinformation. This introductory ethics CE provides clinicians with clear, balanced, evidence-based, sex-positive, and client-centered understanding for working with adults presenting with pornography concerns. You’ll step away from this course with greater comfort and competence to address a major hot-button issue in the counseling world.


By the end of this course, participants will be able to:


  • Differentiate evidence-based risks from common myths about pornography use.
  • Summarize key research on pornography use and psychosocial correlates to inform clinical understanding.
  • Evaluate how age-verification laws may shape client experiences of shame, privacy, and sexual autonomy.
  • Apply ethical and sexual-health frameworks to support informed, non-pathologizing, and client-centered care for adults.


This course is grounded in ACA (2014) and AASECT (2016) ethical codes emphasizing:


  • Autonomy • Veracity • Non-maleficence • Justice
  • Cultural humility and avoidance of bias
  • Competence in addressing (adult) sexual behavior


Continuing Education Eligibility


This course meets the continuing education requirements for professional ethics in both Texas & Oregon, including Texas 50% criteria for approved providers. . CE certificates will identify ethics content and total clock hours for license renewal documentation.


  • Neither board pre-approves continuing education courses. Licensees are responsible for determining whether a specific course meets board requirements for their individual license and renewal cycle.
  • Check with your state licensure board for eligibility in other states.
