Ethical Foundations for a Sex Positive Practice Module 3: Boundaries & Scope of Practice

Module Purpose

This module strengthens ethical containment by clarifying professional boundaries, scope of practice, and the therapist’s responsibility to practice with integrity, humility, and role clarity in sex-positive care.

Ethics Credit Alignment: This module directly addresses ethical risk related to fidelity, non-maleficence, informed consent, dual relationships, and ethical referral practices.

Learning Objectives

• Define physical, emotional, relational, and content boundaries in sex-positive clinical work
• Distinguish between general awareness and clinical competence
• Apply scope-appropriate interventions and make ethically sound referral decisions

Why This Matters

Sex-positive care often involves heightened vulnerability, intimacy, and power dynamics. Clear boundaries and scope awareness protect client welfare, preserve therapeutic trust, and support ethical decision-making, to help ensure clinicians avoid overreach, blurred roles, or unintentional harm.

This course meets the continuing education requirements for professional ethics in both Texas & Oregon. CE certificates will identify ethics content and total clock hours for license renewal documentation.
