Ethical Foundations for a Sex Positive Practice, Module 5: The PLISSIT Model
Module Purpose
This module supports ethical pacing and scope-aware clinical intervention when addressing sexual concerns, using the PLISSIT model as a relational, consent-centered framework.
Ethics Credit Alignment: This module directly addresses ethical decision-making, scope of practice, informed consent, non-maleficence, beneficence, and client-centered care in sex-positive clinical work.
Learning Objectives
- Define the four domains of the PLISSIT model.
- Identify when to provide permission, education, specific suggestions, or referral for intensive therapy.
- Recognize the intersections between PLISSIT and professional ethical principles.
Why This Matters
Sexual concerns often sit at the intersection of vulnerability, power, and misinformation. Ethical practice requires not only what we offer, but when and how we offer it. Using PLISSIT as a flexible, consent-centered framework helps clinicians avoid overreach, reduce harm, honor autonomy, and ensure clients receive care that is both ethically grounded and clinically appropriate.

This course meets the continuing education requirements for professional ethics in both Texas & Oregon. CE certificates will identify ethics content and total clock hours for license renewal documentation.
