Ethical Foundations for a Sex Positive Practice, Module 4: Ethical Codes & Sexual Health

Module Purpose

This module integrates sex-positive sexual health principles with core ethical foundations, supporting clinicians in approaching sexuality with clarity, confidence, and accountability.

Ethics Credit Alignment: This module directly addresses ethical decision-making related to autonomy, consent, non-exploitation, protection from harm, and client welfare within sex-positive clinical practice.

Learning Objectives

• Define & clarify the concept of Sex Positivity
• Explain the 6 Principles of Sexual Health & map them to core ethical principles
• Identify intersections of sexual health and ethics in service to an ethically sex positive clinical practice

Why This Matters

Sexual health is deeply connected to ethics, identity, and power. Without a clear ethical framework, clinicians risk reinforcing shame, imposing values, or overlooking harm. Integrating sexual health principles provides a grounded, ethically sound approach to supporting client autonomy, dignity, and well-being across diverse sexual experiences.

Continuing Education Eligibility

Texas (LPCs, LMFTs, LCSWs, Psychologists) & Oregon (LPCs & LMFTs)

This course meets the continuing education requirements for professional ethics in both Texas & Oregon. CE certificates will identify ethics content and total clock hours for license renewal documentation.

Meets Texas 50% criteria for approved providers.

• Neither board pre-approves continuing education courses. Licensees are responsible for determining whether a specific course meets board requirements for their individual license and renewal cycle.
